We, at  Western Union, have more than 135 years of experience in the money transfer business, helping people from all over the world stay connected.

Today, Western Union is a global leader in money transfer services. It is a trusted name that helps both private and corporate clients send and receive money quickly and reliably. Today in China, we cooperate with Postal Savings Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China Everbright Bank, Zhejiang Chouzhou Commercial Bank, Bank of Jilin, Harbin Bank, Fujian Haixia Bank, Yantai Bank, Longjiang Bank, Bank of Wenzhou, Huishang Bank and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank to bring you a fast, convenient and reliable money transfer service2. OUR HISTORY

We started off as a telegraph company, then Western Union successfully evolved into a global leader in money transfer services. The strength of our over 155-year old history is the foundation of our future growth.

TIMELINE

Western Union was established in 1851. Back then, it was called The New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company. Only in 1856 did we change our name to The Western Union Telegraph Company. In 1871, the Western Union Money Transfer® service was introduced and became the company's primary business.

And to top that off, we were the only company in the world to have 5 satellites in orbit in the year 1982. Then in 1992, we launched the Western Union® Money OrderSM service that provides customers with fast and easy ways to get money.

By 1996, we unveiled our North America headquarters in Englewood, Colorado and new offices in Paris, Vienna and Hong Kong. Our meteoric rise continued when we were able to expand to 50,000 service provider locations across the world in 1998.

The new millennium proved to be a historic time for us as we launched our worldwide website, www.westernunion.com. And by 2005, under the leadership of our President of Western Union Financial Services, Christina Gold, we had more than 270,000 service providers (combined with Orlandi Valuta, our subsidiary) worldwide.

We completed our transformation in 2006 when we discontinued our historic telegram service. Western Union is now a financial services company with over 437,0001 Service Provider locations worldwide. And we are still expanding to serve our millions of customers across the globe, and that includes you.
